AppHaven vs Fly.io
AppHaven and Fly.io are alternatives for a booking app or customer portal, but they give you different responsibilities. AppHaven manages production around AI-built business applications. Fly.io gives you direct control over machines and placement.
Short answer
Choose Fly.io if multi-region placement and machine-level control are part of your application requirements. Choose AppHaven if you want the platform to handle the infrastructure decisions around a business app that can run in one region.
Designed for different production responsibilities
AppHaven: focused on running AI-built business applications while the platform handles the machines and deployment environments around them. Your team works on business rules and reviews releases rather than designing the infrastructure.
Fly.io: designed for developers who want control over machine lifecycle, resources, networking and regional placement. It also offers managed databases; choosing Fly.io does not require operating every component yourself.
What can you stop doing yourself?

Get the app running without designing the infrastructure
A booking app needs to save reservations and respond when someone opens it. On AppHaven, describe the app and its database, connect Git and deploy. You have a place for the application to run while you focus on the booking flow.
Fly.io exposes machine placement and lifecycle controls. If those are part of your product requirements, they matter. AppHaven lets you hand over that setup when your app can run in one region.
Managed access for your team
For a staff scheduling tool, AppHaven can handle sign-in before anyone reaches your code. Invite project members, give them the app’s URL and keep working on the features they need.
Fly.io’s shared responsibility model puts protection of sensitive application functionality with you. Configure a suitable login or access layer for the app. AppHaven removes that extra integration for private team apps. See how to invite your users.
Give every proposed change somewhere to run
AppHaven provisions a branch deployment with its own database and files. You can test a new reservation rule against sample bookings, show it to a colleague and make changes before releasing it.
Fly.io’s review-app workflow creates an app through GitHub Actions; database provisioning needs to be added to that workflow. On AppHaven, the preview’s database comes from the same app definition you already use.
Keep your time for the product
Fly.io also offers a managed database with backups. AppHaven combines managed data with team access and branch environments, so you have fewer pieces to assemble before someone can use your app.
Fly.io is the better fit when those infrastructure controls are part of the product. AppHaven fits when you would rather spend that effort on the booking rules, customer portal or team workflow.
Which should you choose?
Choose AppHaven if
you want to run your business application without designing its machine and regional architecture.
- You want a managed database, team access, preview data and production backups around the app.
- Your app fits a container deployment in one region; your team reviews business logic, permissions and updates.
- You are comfortable with restores that go through AppHaven support.
Choose Fly.io if
regional architecture and low-level infrastructure control are requirements of your app.
- You need multi-region placement and will design the corresponding data and routing model.
- You need machine lifecycle APIs, network controls or placement decisions AppHaven does not expose.
- You have the expertise to operate that architecture and want those controls.
Common questions
Can I move an existing Fly.io app?
Try the container on an AppHaven preview first. Check any machine API calls, regional assumptions and persistent files, then rehearse the database move before changing production traffic.
What if my app needs multiple active regions?
Choose Fly.io if you need multi-region placement and can design the application’s data and routing around it. AppHaven runs each app in one region and is not the right choice for an architecture requiring multiple active regions.
